Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Senior Automation Engineer is expected to meet all the qualifications of an Automation Engineer with enhanced expertise and technical capabilities. This role involves diagnosing electrical issues and applying electrical principles to assess and modify machinery and components. The incumbent will generate and implement modifications to PLC, computer systems, and Drives, while also maintaining and installing control system communications. Proficiency in troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing industrial process control systems, instrumentation, robotic assembly devices, and computer-controlled machinery is essential.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Fulfill all responsibilities of the Automation Engineer while providing training and support to other team members in the Automation Engineer role.
  2. Oversee Capital projects assigned to the Automation team and coordinate activities of junior maintenance staff and contractors on these projects.
  3. Manage in-house projects including ordering parts, conducting meetings, and supervising installations.
  4. Deliver precise and comprehensive IBA/PLC analysis for all operational challenges.
  5. Execute advanced PLC programming, networking, and troubleshooting; set up and install hardware; and evaluate equipment to recommend design modifications and enhancements.
  6. Possess expert knowledge of and the ability to modify ancillary systems or equipment associated with PLCs, including operating systems, software packages, drives, and data acquisition systems, ensuring identification of root causes for equipment failures.
  7. Capable of rebuilding and configuring all PCs/HMIs throughout the facility.
  8. Demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience with AC/DC Drives.
  9. Exhibit comprehensive experience with all areas and equipment within the facility.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience as an Automation Engineer.
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • Ability to showcase a strong technical aptitude.
  • Highly self-motivated individual.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing or walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push/pull objects.
  • Capability to reach, squat, and endure prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to lift weights up to 70 lbs.
  • Proficient in operating hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet.
  • Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
  • Willingness to work in extreme ambient temperatures.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Ability to tolerate high noise levels.
