Mortgage Loan Originator Job Description

Job Summary:

The Mortgage Loan Originator is a key member of our team at Dover Federal Credit Union, responsible for developing referral contacts and originating loan applications. This role requires excellent communication and sales skills, as well as a strong understanding of mortgage lending regulations and products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with branch staff, community leaders, and other referral sources to generate new mortgage loan applications.
  • Conduct thorough loan interviews with members to identify their financial needs and originate loan applications.
  • Market and provide counsel on the credit union's mortgage products and services to prospects and current members.
  • Meet or exceed established mortgage sales goals and cross-sell other credit union deposit and loan products.
  • Review mortgage referral results with branches, lending, and Member Experience Management.
  • Expedite loans in process by regularly reviewing pipeline, following up on documentation with borrowers, and interacting with title companies, realtors, and attorneys.
  • Attend pipeline meetings with lending management and mortgage vendors.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry developments, regulations, and competitor offerings.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years mortgage lending experience.
  • Working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, TIL regulations, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, RESPA regulations, and local and state real estate and finance laws.
  • Demonstrated sales ability and service techniques, including tele-consulting, prospecting, and networking.
  • NMLS registration required, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
