Position OverviewThe Teaching Apprentice role offers a distinctive opportunity for motivated individuals with limited or no prior teaching experience to delve into the education sector, gaining practical experience and the training required to become effective full-time educators.
As a Teaching Apprentice, you will have the chance to observe exemplary teaching practices and educational reform strategies from seasoned educators and school leaders within a leading charter management organization.
Your responsibilities will include observing and learning from Master Teachers, co-teaching alongside teacher-leaders, providing substitute teaching support, and assisting with tutoring, grading, and individualized or small group instruction.
Depending on the needs of the school and your background, you may also have the opportunity to lead your own class, providing direct teaching experience while managing a limited teaching load.
Additionally, Teaching Apprentices will engage in various tasks both inside and outside the classroom, such as conducting Enrichment classes, organizing student events, and fostering mentoring relationships with students.
Through active participation in summer and school-year professional development, along with regular meetings with an instructional coach, Teaching Apprentices will have numerous opportunities to enhance their teaching skills.
By the conclusion of the year, Teaching Apprentices will emerge as strong candidates for full-time teaching roles.Key Responsibilities- Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders observing other educators;
- Provide substitute teaching coverage as needed;
- Potentially lead a class or small groups of students;
- Gradually take on more instructional responsibilities throughout the year;
- Develop teaching competencies to transition into a full-time teaching position;
- Support students through daily one-on-one and small group tutoring, as well as intervention strategies;
- Observe Master Teachers to refine instructional techniques and classroom management skills;
- Engage in regular coaching sessions to implement feedback on lessons;
- Coordinate or teach an Enrichment class;
- Assist teachers with instructional tasks, assessments, grading, and other classroom duties;
- Fulfill all responsibilities expected of classroom teachers, including:
- Implementing curricula and activities aligned with academic standards;
- Designing assessments to measure student progress;
- Utilizing assessment data to enhance curriculum and instructional practices;
- Participating in collaborative curriculum development and school-wide events;
- Providing consistent behavioral support and consequences;
- Serving as an advisor to a small group of students;
- Co-leading advisory/homeroom sessions;
- Supervising students during transitions and meal times;
- Being accountable for students' mastery of academic standards;
- Communicating effectively with students, families, and colleagues;
- Participating in comprehensive staff orientation and training.

CompensationThe starting salary for this position is $55,000.
Compensation may vary based on factors such as relevant professional experience, education, certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
We value staff tenure and do not impose salary caps for current employees.
