Position Summary

The role involves delivering comprehensive nutrition services while engaging in departmental performance enhancement initiatives, ensuring adherence to the Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist Clinical Ladder guidelines. The focus is on achieving patient/client satisfaction, maintaining high-quality care, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering positive public relations through the efficient use of resources.

This dietitian will be an integral part of the Pediatric Cardiology HEARTest Yard team, addressing the nutritional requirements for the outpatient Neurodevelopmental clinic, managing care for infants with complex congenital heart conditions, and overseeing the home nasogastric tube program. The collaborative team includes a Pediatric Cardiologist, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Registered Dietitian, Speech Language Pathologist, and Social Worker.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Evaluate and monitor the nutritional status of patients/clients, making necessary adjustments to nutritional care based on current scientific literature and relevant medical data.
  2. Provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and counseling, which includes assessment, education, and the development, monitoring, and implementation of tailored MNT plans for assigned patients/clients.
  3. Coordinate with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to integrate nutrition into a comprehensive patient/client care plan.
  4. Complete all necessary documentation, including nutritional care plans, assessments, consultations, nutrient intake analyses, and patient/client education, in a timely and professional manner.
  5. Assess the effectiveness of educational materials and provide patient/client and family education, tailoring approaches to meet individual learning needs.
  6. Conduct in-service training on relevant topics for team members and other disciplines as requested, with oversight from the clinical manager or designee.
  7. Participate in the orientation, training, and mentoring of team members and dietetic interns under the guidance of the manager or designee.
  8. Share findings from nutrition research with medical team members, nursing staff, pharmacy, patients, and the public.
  9. Engage with multidisciplinary departments regarding patient/client care and performance feedback to uphold standards of excellence in customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year of clinical pediatric experience is preferred. Certification as a Lactation Counselor or as a Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition is also preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be capable of continuous verbal communication, reading written materials, composing written communications, and occasionally lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires frequent walking, standing, and sitting, with occasional squatting, twisting, and bending.

Education and Certifications

A Bachelor's degree is required. Candidates must be RD/LDN registry eligible or a Registered Dietitian (Commission on Dietetic Registration) and licensed by the NC Board of Dietetics and Nutrition. If RD/LDN registry eligible, registration must be completed within 4 months of hire. Specialty certifications may be required as determined by department managers.
