Position Overview
The OB/GYN Laborist Role A is a critical in-house position dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based care to obstetric patients while effectively managing hospital resources. This role may involve supervision and education of residents and medical students when present. The OB/GYN Laborist Role A serves as the primary provider, ensuring immediate availability throughout their shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the prevention of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality by maintaining inpatient obstetric care that meets or exceeds established standards.
- Collaborate with the obstetric care team, which may include medical students, nursing staff, resident physicians, maternal-fetal medicine fellows, and advanced practice providers, to identify and address clinical concerns.
- Work with the charge nurse to manage unit resources effectively, prioritizing labor inductions and cesarean deliveries as needed.
- Provide on-site obstetric care for patients with no prenatal care or those whose prenatal care provider is unavailable.
- Facilitate the transfer of patients from outside hospitals, ensuring proper communication and management upon arrival.
- Lead scheduled safety huddles and conduct post-event debriefing sessions to enhance team performance.
- Offer clinical support to other OB/GYN attendings and advanced practice providers, including assistance with obstetric emergencies and surgical procedures.
- Supervise resident physicians in the management of obstetric patients, including triage evaluation and postpartum care.
Qualifications
- Doctorate from an accredited Medical College is required.
- Licensure as a Physician (MD) or Osteopathic Physician (DO) in the State of Michigan is mandatory upon hire.
- DEA Registration in the State of Michigan is required upon hire.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs on occasion.
- Frequent standing and walking are required.
- Occasional sitting, bending, and reaching activities.
Work Environment
This position is part-time with variable shifts, accommodating the needs of the department.
