POSITION OVERVIEW To support our expanding operations, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is seeking a Senior Mobile Trailer Technician to join our dedicated team. This role is focused on providing on-site services, and we do not offer emergency roadside repairs. If you are looking for a stable and rewarding work environment, we would be eager to discuss this opportunity with you. The Senior Mobile Trailer Technician will be tasked with conducting certified DOT inspections, performing preventative maintenance inspections, executing light and advanced repairs, and handling additional responsibilities such as working on aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and panel replacements. This position is critical for advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting of complex repairs, serving as a lead technician on job sites. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Adhere to safe operating practices and procedures at all times.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliations.
  • Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Utilize knowledge gained through formal training and hands-on experience to perform job duties effectively.
  • Engage with clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance and resolving issues.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrate integrity and maintain confidentiality while adhering to ethical and professional standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile environment.
  • Respond to unscheduled service and maintenance requests dispatched by the call center.
  • Utilize hand tools, precision instruments, and trailer-specific tools, including welding equipment and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings according to company standards using a company-issued iOS device and proprietary applications.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work autonomously and manage a personal daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity levels and adhere to Standard Repair Times.
  • Source parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss findings.
  • Comply with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Participate in required safety training programs.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers and vendors through effective communication.
  • Conduct safety checks and daily inspections of the service truck.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer systems and equipment.
  • Stay informed on safety protocols and procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair various trailer systems, including aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, and more.
  • Identify problems and evaluate information to generate and assess alternatives.
  • Inspect and test equipment to diagnose malfunctions using appropriate instruments.
  • Assist junior technicians with diagnostics and inventory reconciliation.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior technicians.
  • Support the team in advanced diagnostics and complex repairs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record required.
  • Possession of a valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one promptly.
  • Must provide a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  • OEM training and certifications are advantageous.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Completion of all required company training is mandatory.
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED OR TO BE OBTAINED WITHIN 18 MONTHS:
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification
  • ASE 608/609 certification*
  • CDL-A License
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:
