Job Summary

The City of Forest Park is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for providing protection of life and property, enforcing laws and regulations, and responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce all applicable codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations to protect life and property, prevent crime, and promote security.
  • Patrol designated areas via motor vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to detect and deter criminal activity and traffic violations.
  • Investigate and report public safety issues, including roadway hazards, malfunctioning traffic signals, and damaged street signs.
  • Respond to calls relayed by dispatchers, including domestic disputes, abuse, assaults, and other problem situations.
  • Prevent and discover the commission of crime, issue citations, and apprehend suspects.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations, interview victims and witnesses, and record statements.
  • Participate in investigative and undercover operations, develop informants, and gather information and evidence.
  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including lifting, dragging, or carrying people away from dangerous situations.
  • Enforce vehicle operating laws, parking laws, and DUI laws, conduct field sobriety tests, and evaluate the ability of impaired drivers to operate motor vehicles.
  • Respond to traffic accidents, investigate collisions, and measure accident scenes.
  • Provide traffic control, crowd control, police protection, and security escorts for accident scenes, malfunctioning traffic signals, and other situations.
  • Perform specialized tasks associated with assignment to the Community Oriented Policing Services Unit (COPS), provide safety and education on school campuses, and create and implement school/community programs to increase drug awareness and maintain a drug-free and violence-free school environment.
  • Assist with field training and evaluation of new recruits, provide assistance to other employees or departments as needed, and perform general/clerical tasks.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, supplemented by completion of basic police officer training program.
  • 2 months previous experience and/or training involving law enforcement or security work, and training/work in area of specialized assignment.
  • Valid Georgia Basic Peace Officer Standard Training (P.O.S.T.) certification, Intoximeter Operator certification, and Radar Operator certification.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.
Working Conditions

The work is heavy, requiring exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Work may be performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, fumes, hazardous materials, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, toxic agents, disease, pathogenic substances, violence, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, explosives, or rude/irate customers.
