About the Role

Betterment is seeking a highly skilled Staff Site Reliability Engineer to join our team. As a trusted partner throughout the organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our systems and tools. Your expertise in software development toolchains, CI/CD pipelines, SLIs/SLOs, and Observability will enable you to build reliable, scalable, and secure cloud native solutions that empower development teams to operate independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Improve our software delivery pipeline to make it expedient and encourage a culture of high code quality
  • Work with business units to scale and design systems that are highly available and resilient
  • Make substantial code contributions to our applications and configuration management software
  • Weigh in on design documents and perform code reviews, providing valuable and actionable feedback to peers throughout engineering
  • Participate in on-call cycles
  • Collaborate with other talented thinkers to make Betterment's revolutionary software even better
  • Teach and learn from others, sharing your knowledge and expertise to help grow our team professionally
Requirements
  • Expertise in software development toolchains and environments, CI/CD pipelines, SLIs/SLOs, and Observability
  • A depth of experience building reliable, scalable, and secure cloud native solutions that enable development teams to operate independently
  • Experience with automation, infrastructure as code, and configuration management
  • Experience with container-based applications
  • A demonstrated understanding of software development best practices
  • Passion for software engineering as a craft, and for creating what doesn't yet exist
  • Ability to make the tradeoffs required to ship without compromising quality
  • Appreciation for agility and pragmatism in software development
  • Bias for action and proactive problem-solving
