Key Responsibilities- Sample Collection and Processing: Collect patient specimens and process them for testing, ensuring accuracy and precision in all procedures.
- Lab Testing and Analysis: Perform laboratory tests in various specialties, including hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank or microbiology, using automated and manual methods.
- Result Analysis and Reporting: Analyze test results for validity and accuracy, and report critical results to healthcare providers in a timely manner.
- Quality Control and Assurance: Perform quality control and proficiency testing procedures to ensure accurate and precise test results.
- Instrument Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform preventative maintenance, minor troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.
- Education and Training: Participate in teaching and training of new staff members and students, and maintain competency in current procedures and gain competency for new methods implemented.
- Education: Associate degree in medical laboratory science or military equivalent.
- Certification: MLT certification within one year of hire or meets CLIA Standard: Testing personnel qualifications.
- Skills and Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
The Medical Laboratory Technician will work in a laboratory setting, frequently standing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and occasionally walking, sitting, and reaching with hands and arms. The employee may have occasion to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Level of Supervision: Some independent judgment is required, but alternatives are limited by standard practices or procedures.
