Position Overview:

The Vice President for Finance and Administration/Chief Financial Officer (VPFA/CFO) holds the primary responsibility for strategizing, directing, and overseeing the financial operations and activities at Lourdes, ensuring alignment with its mission and vision. This role encompasses leadership and supervision of Finance & Treasury, Debt Management, General Accounting, Capital Projects, and Human Resources. The VPFA/CFO will also manage all Auxiliary Services at Lourdes University, including the state-of-the-art Franciscan Center, a premier theatre and conference venue located on campus. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while effectively managing financial risks and providing responsive oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to and advise the President on fiscal policy matters; lead, monitor, and coordinate financial activities; and establish fiscal policy frameworks.
  • Enhance organizational prospects by analyzing economic trends and academic revenue opportunities in collaboration with the Provost; identify areas for improvement, cost savings, and system enhancements.
  • Monitor financial performance through measurement and analysis of results, initiate corrective actions, and minimize variance impacts. Develop forecasts and improvement plans, and communicate financial insights to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Interpret and explain financial data to assist senior leadership in understanding current operations and future implications.
  • Maximize returns on investments by maintaining relationships with financial advisors.
  • Oversee the preparation of budgets and annual financial reports, including compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Identify and manage business risks and insurance needs.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Information Officer on technology decisions and oversee financial systems upgrades.
  • Recruit, train, and retain skilled finance and accounting personnel.
  • Work closely with the Vice President for Enrollment Management to project enrollment trends.

Additional Duties:

  • Act as the finance representative to the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee.
  • Participate in the President's Cabinet and Extended President's Cabinet.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; an MBA, CPA, or CMA is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Finance/Accounting is required.
  • Significant experience in fiscal management within a large organization, with at least 5 years in a leadership role; experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in financial modeling and projections; strong knowledge of contemporary management practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage effectively with all campus sectors.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Exhibit the highest levels of integrity, creativity, energy, and decisiveness.
  • Successful track record in identifying revenue-generating opportunities for nonprofit organizations.
