Summer Research Fellowship

We are seeking highly motivated and talented undergraduate students to participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The SURF program provides a unique opportunity for students to work alongside internationally recognized scientists and engineers on cutting-edge research projects. Students will gain hands-on experience in a federal laboratory environment, develop their skills in research and technical areas, and build professional relationships with experts in the field.
About the ProgramThe SURF program is designed to provide undergraduate students with opportunities to engage in research and development activities in various STEM fields. Students will work under the guidance of experienced researchers and mentors to conduct research projects that align with NIST's mission and goals. The program is open to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university in the United States or U.S. territories.
Job DescriptionAs a SURF participant, you will have the opportunity to work on a research project that interests you and contributes to NIST's mission. You will be paired with a research mentor who will guide and support you throughout the program. Your responsibilities will include conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting your findings. You will also have access to NIST's state-of-the-art facilities and resources, including equipment, software, and libraries.
Requirements- Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university in the United States or U.S. territories.
- Majoring in a STEM field, such as chemistry, biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or physics.
- Strong academic record, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Ability to commit to 11 weeks of full-time work during the summer.
