Job Overview: The Bilingual Special Education Instructor (Spanish) is tasked with delivering tailored educational experiences to students with disabilities who need extra assistance in their academic and language growth. This role involves close collaboration with general education instructors, special education personnel, and other relevant parties to design and execute individualized education programs (IEPs) that cater to the distinct requirements of each student. Proficiency in both Spanish and English is essential for effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, integrating both special education and bilingual education methodologies.
- Deliver direct instruction to students with disabilities in both Spanish and English, modifying instructional resources and techniques to accommodate their varied needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure that students with disabilities are integrated into the general education curriculum to the fullest extent possible.
- Regularly evaluate student progress and modify instructional approaches as necessary to guarantee meaningful learning outcomes.
- Effectively communicate with parents/guardians in both Spanish and English regarding student progress, objectives, and support strategies.
- Work in partnership with special education and bilingual education staff to create and implement effective teaching practices.
- Maintain accurate and current records of student progress, IEPs, and other pertinent documentation.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to remain informed about best practices in special education and bilingual education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid teaching license/certification in Special Education and Bilingual Education (Spanish).
- Fluency in Spanish and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a bilingual environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom.
- Ability to lift and carry classroom materials and equipment.
- Ability to utilize technology and assistive devices as required.
Work Environment:
- Work is typically conducted in a classroom setting.
- May require occasional travel for meetings, professional development, etc.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range dictated by Contractual Bargaining Agreement based on years of service and education.
- Benefits: Full.
