Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Collections Specialist to join our team at the University System of New Hampshire. As a key member of our financial services team, you will be responsible for analyzing and resolving complex financial problems for students and borrowers, providing financial counseling, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and resolve complex financial problems for students and borrowers
  • Review and institute collection procedures on accounts, including making contacts and conducting research to resolve account issues
  • Counsel and assist students and borrowers with repayment options of past due overdue accounts
  • Oversee outsourcing accounts to collection agencies and maintaining records as required
  • Assure compliance with Federal regulations for assigned loan program(s); manage and verify student/borrower exit counseling in compliance with Federal regulations; assist with the audit of loan program
  • Manage use of outside collections agencies and evaluate their performance
  • Maintain records and reports as required
  • Review, update, make recommendations for improvement in departmental policies and procedures
  • Provide courteous, accurate, efficient customer service, in person, via telephone and via email. Respond to all inquiries using all forms of communication
  • Process financial transactions, which may be varied internal and/or external funding sources. Utilize computerized financial accounting system, relevant financial transactions, procedures and general account, business practices and procedures, assuring adherence to standards
  • Maintain confidentiality in communicating sensitive information and confidential matters
  • Adhere to and enforce all Federal, USNH, KSC and Student Accounts policies.
Requirements
  • 2 years of successful collections experience
  • Knowledge of federal regulations concerning collections and financial aid
  • Proven communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Proven organizational, analytical and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, collaboratively to solve problems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Collection experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience with Colleague
  • Ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus
