Family Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Family Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Valparaiso University. As a key member of our student health services team, you will provide primary care to students, perform assessments, diagnose and manage health care problems, and develop care/treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities- Provide primary care to students, including physical examinations, client and family history, and social history.
- Identify health risks and needs based on normal and abnormal findings obtained from history, examination, and/or laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Diagnose and manage health care problems, including prescribing pharmacological agents and treatments and nonpharmacological therapies.
- Develop care/treatment plans that meet the needs of the client and maintain quality care.
- Refer clients to other health care providers as deemed appropriate.
- Perform point of care testing, independent evaluations, treatments, and procedures within the scope of practice in routine and emergency situations.
- Record findings and need for follow-up and/or referrals, including ordering laboratory and other diagnostic procedures.
- Serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.
- Adhere to all pertinent regulatory agency guidelines.
- Develop and present educational programs for patients and engage students in health and wellness.
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- At least two years experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner and three to five years previous professional nursing experience preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Graduate degree from an accredited university.
- Successful completion of an approved Family Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current Indiana RN license.
- Board Certification (ANA sponsored) as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Eligible for prescriptive authority in the state of Indiana.
- CPR/AED certification or completion within 6 months of hire.
- At least two years experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner, preferred.
- Three to five years previous professional nursing experience, preferred.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as in collaboration with the collaborating physician and other Nurse Practitioner on staff.
- Ability to interact effectively with others; interest in and ability to relate to college age students.
- Ability to maintain good patient relations in all formats of communication and adhere to total patient confidentiality/ethics.
- Coordinate a Wellness and Outreach Program for Valpo students.
