About the Role

Merrick & Company is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing Business Unit. This full-time, direct hire position will be responsible for engineering, design, coordination, client communications, and associated construction administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee engineering deliverables, calculations, systems, and equipment selection
  • Manage mechanical design, budget, and schedule
  • Maintain professional relationships with vendors, customers, and other Merrick personnel
  • Work with other engineering and technical personnel to ensure overall project goals are met
Design and Construction

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Applying knowledge in Food & Personal Care, Bioprocessing, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, Manufacturing, and Industrial facilities/systems
  • Ensuring understanding and compliance with owner's requirements and corporate standards related to mechanical design
  • Confirming and reviewing applicable codes and standards, such as IBC, ASME, API, PIP, and NFPA
  • Establishing and documenting the mechanical systems basis of design
Project Management

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also be responsible for:

  • Developing scopes of work based on RFPs and pre-bid meetings with clients
  • Working with owners and construction management teams to validate construction cost and provide value-engineering options
  • Managing project mechanical engineering and design teams
  • Overseeing all aspects of the mechanical scope related to equipment and piping
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Twelve (12)+ years of industry experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain PE within the first year of employment
  • Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects
  • Experience leading teams of engineers on design projects
Desired Qualifications
  • Pipe stress analysis experience utilizing software such as CAESAR II
  • Significant experience designing and installing retrofits and upgrades at manufacturing and industrial facilities
  • HVAC and plumbing design for industrial facilities
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and B31.1, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes, PIP, and API codes
  • Experience in managing personnel and project engineering
