Job Summary:

Under indirect supervision, operate EEG equipment and perform technical duties to measure impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various brain areas on patients to obtain data for physician diagnosis of brain disorders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interview patients and review medical records to determine physical and emotional state for remedial action or assistance.
  • Screen incoming EEG referrals for urgency and activation procedures.
  • Advise patients on the EEG procedure.
  • Position patients for testing, attach electrodes to predetermined positions on the forehead, scalp, and ears.
  • Record ohmmeter readings of electrodes or determine resistance levels; reapply surface electrodes with high resistance.
  • Monitor brain wave activity to determine readiness for examination, set machine settings, and activate the EEG machine.
  • Observe wave characteristics to detect evidence of brain disorders, mark machine graphs, and refer rare cases to physicians.
  • Record reactions to introduced stimuli, such as flashing lights or intermittent tones, or activities induced by rapid breathing.
  • Stop the machine, remove electrodes, and log information.
  • Examine tracing characteristics to detect disorders not noted during examination, write reports on unusual wave characteristics, and describe possible problems.
  • Perform EMG, sleep studies, and special studies, such as brain death.
  • Perform other duties, including preparing patient schedules, compiling laboratory statistics, writing and filing reports, cleaning and stocking equipment, and attending training meetings.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered EEG Technologist Certificate.
  • Knowledge of neurology and basic electrical safety and electronics.
  • Ability to transport equipment and take appointment information from various areas of the hospital and clinic.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Computer skills in KPHC and Point.
Notes:
  • This is a part-time EEG tech position covering Fontana and Ontario Clinics Inpatient and Outpatient.
  • Days worked will vary per week.
