**Job Summary**

The School Counselor will provide academic and personal support to students, focusing on their social, emotional, and academic well-being. This role requires a strong understanding of the importance of social-emotional learning and the ability to adapt culturally responsive approaches when working with diverse populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Academic Support: Offer individual and group counseling sessions to students, focusing on academic achievement, career development, and personal growth.
  • Develop and Implement Guidance Programs: Design and implement guidance programs to meet the identified needs of students, including classroom guidance sessions, individual student planning, and group counseling.
  • Collaborate with School Staff: Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to ensure a comprehensive and supportive learning environment.
  • Engage with Families: Establish and maintain strong communication lines with parents and families, providing regular updates on student progress and involving them in the counseling process.
  • Assess and Referral: Assess student needs and make referrals to appropriate school resources, social agencies, and community organizations as needed.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention services as needed, working closely with the school crisis team to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development, staying up-to-date on best practices in school counseling and social-emotional learning.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Counseling or a related field.
  • Credentials: Pupil Personnel Service (PPS) credential or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least two years of school counseling experience or extensive experience working in urban school settings.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse populations, and strong knowledge of Google Classrooms (G Suite, Word, Dropbox, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual: Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience in Charter Schools: Experience working in charter schools preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Motor Coordination: Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the workday.
  • Physical Effort: Required to exert physical effort in handling objects up to twenty pounds rarely.
