Key Responsibilities:

The Field Service Technician for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for on-site installation, maintenance, and repair of advanced equipment and systems.


The Field Service Technician I will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers possessing skills in sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high vacuum theory, electron optics, and chemistry.


This position offers the potential for professional growth within Field Services and across the Thermo Fisher organization. What You Will Do:
  • Assist in the on-site installation of complex equipment and conduct testing procedures to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Support scheduled maintenance visits on-site.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair assistance for clients and fellow field service personnel.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with clients, system users, and company staff.
  • Travel frequently, often on short notice, to client locations to resolve issues or support other field service staff.
  • Complete and submit field service reports.
  • Deliver training to clients and users on system maintenance.
  • Offer feedback to product quality teams.
  • Contribute to the updating and correction of various system documentation.
  • Collaborate with application scientists to develop innovative solutions for user challenges.

Qualifications:

Education:
An associate degree from a technical or undergraduate program in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science, or a related field is preferred; or 1-3 years of relevant experience.

Experience:
1-3 years' experience or willingness to learn:


Operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating advanced analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, Prober, or similar systems is advantageous but not mandatory. Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) is a plus but not required.


Experience with oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, and logical problem-solving skills is beneficial.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, demonstrating a consistent record of decision-making with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented, problem solver, and team player.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality for both clients and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
  • Proficient in Windows software environments.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills are preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, time management, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to travel 25-50% of the time.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and passport for regional and international travel as needed.

  • Work may occur at client locations, in office environments, or in laboratory settings.
  • Must be able to gain access to US Government laboratories and facilities.
  • Potential exposure to areas where chemical-based allergens may be present.


Depending on the area of the building, personal protective equipment may include lab coats, coveralls, hoods, facemasks, hairnets, safety gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, and/or bump hats.


Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
