Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Fire Suppression Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire extinguishers and pre-engineered suppression systems, as well as fire alarm and security systems, with minimal oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize necessary tools and testing equipment, including power machines, groovers, cutters, and lifts, to repair or replace components of fire extinguishers, suppression systems, and fire alarm & security systems.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of NFPA codes, standards, and systems related to fire extinguishers, suppression systems, and fire alarm & security systems.
  • Diagnose and identify faulty components within pre-engineered suppression systems.
  • Repair or substitute damaged parts of suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and fire alarm & security systems.
  • Engage with internal and external clients in a professional manner.
  • Maintain punctuality at required work sites and ensure timely completion of scheduled tasks.
  • Employ Field Service Lightning to manage work orders, required materials, and time spent on jobs.
  • Complete necessary documentation for work orders.
  • Adhere to the company's safety protocols, including the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) book and hazardous communication program. Participate in weekly safety discussions.
  • Ensure the company vehicle is kept clean and maintained according to company standards.
  • Be available for on-call status as needed to address emergency service requests.
  • Attend training sessions or seminars to stay updated on the latest technologies, codes, and standards.
  • Provide training to service technician trainees on relevant aspects of this role.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The qualifications outlined below represent the requirements necessary to perform this role successfully. An equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and experience may also be considered.

Education and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • State or relevant certification is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the Fire Life Safety Industry, specifically in Fire Suppression.
  • At least 2 years of professional computer skills.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with colleagues and clients.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Must comply with the company's Drug and Alcohol policy and background screening requirements, which may include customer-specific criteria based on contractual agreements.
  • Willingness to travel up to 90% of the time.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently bends, ascends and descends ladders and stairs, kneels, lifts up to 50 lbs, reaches above and below shoulders, and stands or walks for extended periods. The employee must be able to see in color, at close and far distances, and adjust focus as needed. Occasionally, the employee may need to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift over 50 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.

Work Environment:

Employees will regularly work outdoors and may be exposed to varying temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Occasionally, employees may work indoors in an office setting, either alone or with others. Employees must consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment as mandated by company safety policies while on-site.
