Job Responsibilities:

The Emergency Department Technician is responsible for delivering direct patient support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional, adhering to all applicable regulations and the policies of Bon Secours Mercy Health.


Key Duties:
  • Deliver essential patient care, including comfort measures, vital sign monitoring, personal hygiene assistance, mobility support, laboratory specimen collection, ECGs, basic wound management, and other specialized unit tasks as directed by an RN.
  • Conduct patient rounds as assigned.
  • Provide 1:1 patient safety companion services when necessary.
  • Act as a communication link between patients and nursing staff to relay changes and concerns.
  • Ensure high-quality customer service for patients, their families, community providers, visitors, and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to patient care.
  • Participate in handoff reports, sharing critical information regarding patient and departmental needs.
  • Perform assigned tasks once competency has been confirmed.
  • Gather data within the defined scope of practice.
  • Conduct patient screenings as required.
  • Promote quality and safety by actively seeking improvements in processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Exhibit the ability to work autonomously, resolve conflicts, and manage stress effectively.
  • Stay informed about relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

Licensing & Certifications:
  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must be obtained from an approved source prior to engaging in direct patient care)
  • Current certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assistant (preferred)

Experience:
  • Prior experience in a Patient Care Technician role, nursing support position, or relevant healthcare experience, or being a second-year nursing student in a Registered Nurse (RN) program (preferred)
