Core Responsibilities
General Overview:
The primary mission of faculty is to facilitate the teaching and learning process. Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) is dedicated to creating an environment that enhances educational experiences and supports all initiatives that promote a learning-centered institution. The main duty of faculty is to effectively instruct courses within their area of expertise. A proficient educator will plan, organize, teach, assess, advise, and provide constructive feedback to enhance student learning in alignment with ACM's educational values. Faculty members are also encouraged to engage in professional development and contribute to the institution and community.
Key Functions
Teaching & Learning:
- Possess knowledge of learning-centered principles and the ability to implement diverse teaching strategies that optimize student learning.
- Prepare and deliver instruction across various modalities (in-person, hybrid, online, etc.). Develop instructional materials and provide feedback on student progress.
- Utilize consistent assessment measures to enhance learning outcomes.
- Demonstrate technological proficiency and commitment to using relevant technologies in teaching.
- Employ alternative instructional methods, including online and hybrid course options.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of teaching methodologies in relation to student learning.
- Create learning opportunities that recognize and embrace student diversity.
- Complete required documentation, including attendance records and course grades.
- Utilize the college's Learning Management System (LMS) for course-related activities.
- Show respect for students and be responsive to their educational needs.
- Conduct classes in accordance with established course descriptions and learning outcomes.
- Participate in departmental meetings and activities as needed.
- Assist in departmental assessment reporting.
- Adhere to college policies and maintain professional conduct.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental and institutional goals.
- Maintain open communication with the Program Director or Division Chair.
- Mentor students informally and assist with course and curriculum planning.
- Collaborate with various college services to support student success.
- Fulfill responsibilities outlined in the Advising Syllabus.
Part-time faculty members are encouraged to engage in professional development opportunities at ACM, such as workshops and community initiatives.
- Commit to staying current in their field and enhancing their teaching skills.
- Complete required professional development training related to accreditation and compliance.
Part-time faculty members are expected to fulfill their instructional responsibilities, which may include:
- Prioritizing teaching duties above other activities.
- Working flexible hours to accommodate student needs.
- Being accessible to students across various days and times.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and two years of recent nursing practice.
- Current registration or eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
- Current certification in health care provider CPR.
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- Experience in teaching and clinical supervision in an accredited nursing program.
- Familiarity with online course management systems.
- Experience in curriculum development.
