Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Technician to join our team at Sky Lakes Medical Center. As an Emergency Department Technician, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care and supporting the nursing staff in our busy emergency department.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including activities of daily living, such as ambulation, dressing, feeding, and toiletry needs.
  • Accurately record vital signs, including rectal temperatures, pediatric weights, and report any abnormal findings to the primary care nurse or charge nurse.
  • Assist nursing staff in gathering information pertinent to the patient's care, including physical needs and functional status.
  • Perform duties as assigned and supervised by the primary care nurse or charge nurse, such as pulse oximetry, orthostatic vital signs, and specimen collection.
  • Provide wound cleaning and apply dressings/dressing changes under the direction of the primary care nurse or physician.
  • Assist nurses and doctors with procedures, such as suture set-ups, lumbar punctures, and IV set-ups.
  • Prepare patients for dismissal by removing electrodes, oxygen, and DC IV, and provide patients with appropriate means of transportation out of the Emergency Department.
  • Splint sprains/fractures on extremities under the direction of the physician.
  • Stock and clean patient treatment areas with needed supplies, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Maintain proficient communication and interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and staff.
Requirements
  • One year experience in an acute care hospital setting, preferably emergency department or one year pre-hospital experience as an EMT.
  • Ability to speak English and have legible handwriting, knowledge of spelling, grammar, and basic arithmetic.
  • Skill in dealing with the public and telephone courtesy, and skill in proper use of body mechanics.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions

The Emergency Department Technician will be required to withstand constant walking, standing, lifting at least 50 lbs. or more, and push/pull regulation hospital equipment. The position will also require occasional sitting, and the ability to function during periods of stress, and exposure to trauma and/or disease.
