Job Overview

The Roofing Technician Trainee will support and gain expertise in the execution of tasks related to the installation and upkeep of commercial roofing systems, including Standing Seam and various metal roofing types, as well as EPDM, TPO, and PVC. This role also involves assisting in the Building Trades Shop with carpentry, masonry, and painting assignments as needed.

Essential Qualifications


• Ability to engage in online coursework and complete required assignments independently and punctually.

• Capability to safely and regularly lift and manage heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds or more with assistance; navigate materials up and down stairs; ascend and work from elevated platforms such as ladders and scaffolds; and endure extended periods of standing, walking, reaching, bending, and pushing/pulling.

• Effective communication skills, strong teamwork abilities, and the capacity to understand, interpret, and follow workplace instructions.

• Willingness to work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.

• Availability to work additional hours or shifts as required by departmental needs.

• This position is classified as emergency personnel.

• Must achieve at least a Bronze rating on the WorkKeys assessment.

• Possession of a valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment.

• Daily operation of a motor vehicle may be required.

Preferred Qualifications


• Experience in a large commercial or educational environment.

• Solid understanding of industrial roofing practices.

• Familiarity with TPO roofing systems.

Additional Information


• Ability to safely and frequently lift and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more with assistance; ability to maneuver materials up and down stairs; ability to climb and work from elevated workstations such as ladders and scaffolds; ability to work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling.

• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.

• A criminal background check will be required.

• A driver's license check will be conducted.

• This position is designated as Emergency Personnel.

• Must be available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to provide support during planned events or emergency situations (such as inclement weather) to include being physically on site if deemed necessary.

• This position meets the criteria for issuance of a mobile communication device (such as radio, cellphone, iPad, iPod, pager, etc.). Devices issued are the responsibility of the employee and are to be returned in satisfactory condition upon separation of employment. Devices are to be used according to supervisor instruction and according to relevant policies.

• As situation dictates, must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Must wear employer provided uniforms as instructed by supervisor or lead.

• Use/wearing of a respirator will be required.

• Must have annual health and safety medical check.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a criminal conviction check.
