We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Patient Care Assistant to join our Surgical Services team at West Virginia University Health System. As a Patient Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Preoperative, Intraoperative, and Postoperative Support: Assist the nursing team in providing high-quality care to surgical patients, including preoperative preparation, intraoperative support, and postoperative care.
- Assist with Patient Care Activities: Perform delegated tasks, such as vital sign monitoring, activities of daily living, and point-of-care testing, under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Transport Patients and Equipment: Safely transport patients to and from various areas, including operating rooms, patient rooms, and other departments.
- Maintain a Clean and Safe Environment: Assist in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment, including the organization and cleaning of work areas, storerooms, and patient bays.
- Process Instruments and Equipment: Process and sterilize instruments and equipment, including autoclaves, washers, and dryers, according to established policies and procedures.
- Document Patient Information: Accurately document patient information, including vital signs, medications, and other relevant data, in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Communicate Effectively: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers, including answering telephone calls, relaying messages, and providing information as needed.
- Education and Certification: High school diploma or equivalent required; certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.
- Experience: Prior patient care experience, including Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) experience.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively, and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
The work environment for this role is in a direct patient care setting, supporting the activities of multiple providers performing parallel processing. The successful candidate will be exposed to communicable diseases, body fluids, and chemicals.
