Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform skilled and technical work requiring driving an ambulance or other emergency medical vehicle, rescuing or extricating victims, and administering basic and intermediate emergency medical care to patients at the scene and during transport to a hospital.
  • Respond to emergency calls for medical assistance as either the driver or the attender, evaluating situations upon arrival on scene and prioritizing patient treatment/rescue activities.
  • Rend appropriate medical care on the Basic and Intermediate Life Support Level to patients with a variety of medical conditions, including respiratory system issues, cardiac arrest, bleeding, shock, hypoxia, nervous system problems, head injuries, infectious diseases, and more.
Essential Functions:
  • Check the condition and function of all vehicle systems and equipment at the start of each shift.
  • Respond to emergency calls for medical assistance as either the driver or the attender.
  • Evaluate the situation upon arrival on scene and prioritize patient treatment/rescue activities.
  • Rend appropriate medical care on the Basic and Intermediate Life Support Level to patients with a variety of medical conditions.
  • Administer IV solutions of D5W, 0.9% NaCl, Lactated Ringers, and Lactated Ringers and D5W when appropriate and indicated by patient condition.
  • Use prescribed tools and techniques for safe and quick extrication of entrapped patients.
  • Transport patients to the requested or appropriate medical facility.
  • Constantly observe patient enroute to medical facility, record changes in condition or vital signs, and administer additional care as needed.
  • Deliver patient to Emergency Room or other staff upon arrival and report verbally and in writing all observations, initial care, equipment used, changes in patient during transport, and care provided enroute.
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be a high school graduate or have GED and be certified as a North Carolina EMT or have the ability to obtain a NC EMT credential through reciprocity.
  • Must maintain a current valid DMV operator's license.
  • Must be able to pass physical agility testing, online personal history questionnaire, drug screen, national background check, driving record check, physical with Cone Health, psychological testing with LESI, and reference checks.
