Job Summary:

The Principal Engineer will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and play a key role in CleanJoule's project and operations teams. This role will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision in project engineering, process engineering, process technology and improvement, capital planning, and commercial-scale engineering operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement the strategic direction for the engineering organization, focusing on continuous improvement and innovation to drive world-class process engineering and technology capabilities and standardization.
  2. Build, develop, and lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team to achieve project objectives, including hiring, training, and performance management of team members.
  3. Identify and incorporate industry best practices in engineering and process improvements, lead and execute projects to implement these practices.
  4. Lead contract negotiations with EPC partners, focusing on key aspects such as scope, timeline, costs, and risk management.
  5. Oversee the performance of EPC partners to ensure they meet contractual obligations and address any issues or concerns in a timely and effective manner.
  6. Develop and execute commissioning and startup strategies, ensuring that all project elements are operationally ready, and that safety, quality, and performance standards are met.
  7. Oversee safety in design by the effective use of HAZAN, HAZOP, and other risk assessment techniques.
  8. Ensure facility design considers CAPEX/OPEX trade-offs and is optimized for operability, maintainability, and reliability.
  9. Develop, implement, and maintain engineering procedures, standards, and specifications for the facilities and the overall CleanJoule business that are fit-for-purpose, in accordance with relevant industry codes and local, State, and Federal regulatory requirements.
  10. Develop and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) for capital projects (pilot and commercial-scale plant); track and report their progress.
  11. Manage and maintain the project schedules, budgets, scopes of work, and external and internal contract deliverables.
  12. Develop and implement a robust Management of Change (MoC) process to evaluate and approve changes that substantially impact the scope, budget, or schedule of a project.
  13. Drive optimization of plant performance post-startup, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing changes as necessary.
  14. Provide expert guidance on process optimization and technical troubleshooting to plant engineering and production teams, leveraging deep process and technology expertise.
  15. Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and safety within the engineering department.
  16. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  17. Act as a liaison between the company and clients, vendors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient communication and project alignment.
  18. Regularly report on project status to executive leadership, stakeholders, and clients.
  19. Adhere to the company's policies and standards and ensure that laws and regulations are being followed.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.

Minimum of 15 years of experience in the petrochemical or industrial biotechnology engineering field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing complex projects and working with EPC partners.

Proven experience in developing and executing commissioning and startup strategies, as well as optimizing plant performance post-startup.

Proven track record of successfully executing large-scale engineering projects from inception to completion.

Exceptional leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven track-record of delivering strong results through people.

Excellent financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation.

Track record of applying technically innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.

Ability to manage strategy implementation while ensuring quality control and attention to HSE.

Exceptional productivity skills.

Can be relied upon to get the job done accurately and on time.

Extensive knowledge of the full range of engineering disciplines technological advances and best practices.

Hands-on experience in quality management systems and engineering procedure development.

Exhibits a strong work ethic, and a reputation for the highest degree of integrity and mature business judgment.

Someone who readily generates ideas; shows creativity and ingenuity and provides solutions to solve problems.

Strong ability to absorb, evaluate, and make effective judgments on people-related issues, and provide technical and general guidance.

Physical Demands:

Frequent lifting and moving of items up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, prolonged standing or sitting may be required.

Must have safe work habits and perform all duties in accordance with company safety policies. Personal protective equipment is provided by the company and its use is mandatory.
