Job Summary

The Funeral Director is accountable for performing various tasks during the preparation, planning, and execution of funeral and memorialization services to ensure smooth operations and meet client family expectations.

Main Responsibilities

">
  1. ">
  2. Collaborate with client families or legal representatives to design services that cater to their end-of-life memorialization needs.">
  3. Educate client families on available merchandising and service options.">
  4. Collect necessary information to complete required documents such as obituaries, death certificates, burial permits, and insurance.">
  5. Coordinate all service arrangements and details with clergy, other presiding persons, fraternal or military organizations, and others involved in conducting the funeral service.">
  6. Utilize systems to record merchandise selections, enter contracts, and complete necessary forms.">
  7. Plan, schedule, and conduct visitations and services.">
  8. Supervise employees participating in services, ensuring each team member understands their role and represents the location professionally.">
  9. Prepare the deceased, including dressing and casketing.">
  10. Place caskets or remains in visitation areas, setting up spaces according to client family wishes.">
  11. Direct and usher families and service attendees to and from the location of the funeral service.">
  12. Assist in transporting client families to ensure timely departures and arrivals.">
  13. Arrange and coordinate shipments of remains to and from other cities and locations.">
  14. Instruct and oversee work of Apprentice Funeral Directors on services and paperwork.">
  15. Perform removals and transfers of individuals into Park Lawn's care as needed.">

Key Qualifications

  • ">
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.">
  • Minimum two years of experience as a licensed Funeral Director.">
  • Valid state Funeral Director License; reciprocal across states and in good standing.">
  • Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and acceptable driving record.">

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Bilingual is a plus.">
  • High degree of overall computer proficiency.">
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).">
  • Effective presentation skills for client families, co-workers, and leadership.">
  • Demonstrated willingness to participate in growing market share through active involvement in community-based organizations.">
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, community leaders, and grieving client families.">

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The duties associated with this position are generally performed in an indoor office setting, with some outdoor duties possible.">
  • Outdoor duties may involve exposure to natural elements like inclement weather, extreme temperatures, uneven ground, dust, gas, and/or fumes.">
  • Equipment used includes computers, fax machines, copiers, multi-line phone systems, body lifts, casket handling/transport devices, personal or company-owned vehicles.">
  • Employees must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity and be willing to work safely, complying with the Company's safety procedures and wearing personal protective equipment as required.">
  • Performance requires climbing, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, frequently lifting up to 75 pounds, and possibly lifting up to 100 pounds.">
  • This position involves routine exposure to chemicals and/or blood-borne pathogens, with an exposure risk considered high.">
  • Employees must be able to drive a company vehicle and maintain a good driving record, being insurable under company vehicle insurance.">
  • Overtime is sometimes necessary or required.">

Travel Requirements

Salary Estimate

The estimated annual salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000, based on factors like job title, location, industry standards, and experience level.
