Job Summary:

As a Lead Respiratory Therapist at Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health, you will play a critical role in advancing departmental standards through the delivery of patient care. You will work under the supervision of the Respiratory Manager and/or Supervisor to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders. Your leadership responsibilities will include mentoring and training staff respiratory therapists and technicians, as well as assisting with complex patient cases.

Responsibilities:
  • Interact with colleagues, visitors, and other staff in a manner consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Administer prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, PFTs, ABGs, and mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation, including clinical assessment, routine rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostic testing to ensure patient safety and appropriate care.
  • Perform evaluation procedures, both invasive and non-invasive, to determine respiratory care needs and make recommendations based on department protocols to improve patient outcomes and facilitate discharge.
  • Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens for diagnosis and measure lung capacity to determine impairments.
  • Offer diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on analysis, communicating across care teams to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Facilitate staffing assignments to ensure all areas are covered, providing adequate patient care and smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory.
  • Collaborate with Department leaders to support the development of licensed respiratory personnel to achieve and maintain staff competency and address administrative/departmental needs as directed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Experienced in all facets of Respiratory Care, including Adult and Neonatal Critical Care. Professional competency in the science of Respiratory Care commensurate with the NBRC credential.

Required Experience, Education, Certification(s), License(s):
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Care.
  • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • Associate's/2-year degree required.
  • Minimum 3+ years' experience in respiratory care.
Preferred Experience, Education, Degree, Certification(s), License(s):
  • Bachelor's preferred.
  • Advanced certification (ACCS, NPS, CPFT, RPFT) preferred.
  • ACLS certification preferred.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.
