Child and Youth Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering direct care and oversight for unaccompanied minors and adolescents. The primary focus is on children aged 0-17, who are accommodated in a 24-hour care facility funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). This position involves facilitating various essential services for the youth, including program orientation, safe transportation, intake processes, and support in vocational, recreational, and structured leisure activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) licensing regulations and ORR policies.
- Uphold and enforce ORR's Zero Tolerance Policy regarding abuse and neglect, ensuring the utmost safety of the children and youth at all times.
Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Preferred: 2 years of experience in youth engagement.
- Experience in a shelter environment is advantageous.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and effective communication with diverse team members.
- Strong organizational abilities, motivation, and excellent leadership qualities characterized by integrity.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
- Competence in typing and utilizing tablets, laptops, or desktops for daily tasks.
- Ability to comprehend and retain information presented during training sessions, shift changes, and departmental meetings.
- Capacity to collaborate effectively with various team members, including program staff, state licensing authorities, and ORR/Federal Field Staff.
Work Environment:
- This role requires in-person engagement to ensure the efficient delivery of services and the reunification of youth in care.
- Shifts will consist of 8-hour work periods.
- Overtime may be necessary as per operational demands.
- The work setting includes both indoor and outdoor supervision of youth.
- Non-traditional work hours may be required, including some holidays.
- Position entails physical activities such as standing, walking, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
- Utilization of headphones and secure two-way communication devices is essential for the overall safety and supervision of youth.
