Position Overview: The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a crucial role in delivering speech and language assessment and intervention services to students. Collaborating closely with the school principal and the Office of Diverse Learner Supports and Services, SLPs work to support students' communication needs and enhance their academic performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess a valid license from the Illinois State Board of Education, endorsed as a Speech Pathologist.
  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations for students requiring initial assessments, re-evaluations, or specialized evaluations, and actively participate in meetings to determine service eligibility.
  • Assist students facing various speech and language challenges to achieve academic standards through prevention, assessment, intervention, and program design integrated within the school curriculum.
  • Oversee the required supervisory duties for Clinical Fellows and practicum students as assigned.
  • Maintain precise documentation and adhere to established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures of the Health Services Management Program (HSMP) for effective service delivery and accurate reporting.

Essential Duties:

  • Deliver therapeutic services to eligible students through diverse service delivery models.
  • Administer diagnostic assessments based on established eligibility criteria.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with educational standards.
  • Engage in necessary meetings such as Domain, Problem Solving, FIE, and Annual Review.
  • Provide consultation and training to teachers, parents, and staff.
  • Utilize augmentative and alternative communication systems as needed.
  • Participate in activities that enhance students' educational experiences.
  • Attend regional and departmental meetings for professional development.
  • Complete compliance documentation, including daily progress notes and quarterly reports on student achievements.
  • Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating sound professional judgment in all interactions.
  • Prioritize student safety and adhere to the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Customize student support through innovative curriculum resources and technology.
  • Advocate for the district's vision, emphasizing equity, cultural competence, and high expectations for all students.

Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree in communication disorders or speech pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of the online application process.
  • A valid state-issued license or credential with the necessary endorsements.
  • Willingness to travel to various school locations as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Light Work: Ability to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally and up to ten (10) pounds frequently.

Employment Expectations:

  • Employees must be residents of the City of Chicago or commit to becoming residents within six months of employment.
  • All new hires must complete onboarding requirements, including background checks and health screenings.
