Job Summary
The Boilermaker Lead is a critical role within Stronghold, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day mechanical activities performed in client facilities. This position requires a high level of expertise in mechanical work, with a focus on safety, quality, productivity, and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, analyze defects, and repair boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, vats, and duct work in the field.
- Repair or replace defective parts using hand and power tools, gas torches, welding equipment, and operate metalworking machinery to repair or make parts.
- Demolition and dismantle leaky boilers, patch weak spots with metal stock, replace defective sections, and strengthen joints.
- Experience using chain falls, come along, and other rigging equipment.
- Read and interpret prints and plans.
- Assist with the cleaning and correct loading of equipment and trailers.
- Ensure a safe working environment while performing work in the client's facilities.
- Operate and maintain company-owned and rented equipment.
- Report any job scope changes to the Supervisor or Superintendent.
- Maintain communication with Supervisor while performing tasks.
- Support the Supervisor and Superintendent by assisting in the development of customer expectations and timelines.
- Ensure the overall safety of assigned subordinates and provide a safe work environment for such personnel.
- Assist in the selection and development of field personnel as requested.
- Follow all Company Safety, Quality Control/Quality Assurance procedures and OSHA guidelines.
- Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
- Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company and client.
- Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment
This job operates in a petrochemical/refinery environment, exposing the employee to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months. The employee must wear protective hearing equipment or frequently shout to be heard above ambient noise levels. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur, and the use of a respirator is required.
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this job are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions. The position of a Boilermaker Lead can be extremely physical at times, requiring the employee to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength, and dexterity. The employee must frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 51 pounds. The employee must be able to work in confined spaces, work at heights, and climb ladders and stairways.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent work experience and 4-5 years' prior work experience in a related industry. Knowledge of rigging and rigging equipment, crane/rigging hand signals, and working knowledge of retrieval devices and fall protection equipment are required. The candidate must also have strong math and science skills and be able to demonstrate skills necessary to perform job functions such as blinding, tray repairs, tray modifications, bolt torque, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years' prior work experience in a related industry, TWIC, NCCER certification, Basic Plus training, Confined Space training, OSHA 10/30 training, First Aid and CPR trained, Class 'A' driver's license, and a clean MVR are preferred.
