Covenant Health (Tennessee) Job Description

Under the direct and indirect supervision of the Lead Therapist, Medical Physicist, and Radiation Oncologist, the Radiation Therapist administers therapeutic radiation to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The ideal candidate will utilize independent judgment to maintain continuity of patient care of the highest standards, in an efficient, caring manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Position patients for treatment with accuracy according to prescription.
  • Administer prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards.
  • Check radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Prepare and construct equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices.
  • Review prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and patient identification.
  • Educate, prepare, and reassure patients and their families by answering questions, providing physical assistance, and reinforcing physicians' advice regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care.
  • Enter patient data into computer and set controls to operate and adjust equipment and regulate dosage.
  • Observe and reassure patients during and after treatment and report unusual reactions to physician.
  • Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others.
  • Maintain accurate records, including radiation dosages, elapsed days, equipment settings, appropriate charge capture, and patients' reactions.
Requirements:
  • Must have and maintain ARRT (T) within six (6) months post-graduate program.
  • CPR required.
