Overview:
Under the direct guidance of the healthcare provider, the Registered Nurse will be accountable for patient evaluation and care, along with maintaining necessary documentation.
This role requires a fundamental understanding of both specialty and primary care, enabling the nurse to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care effectively.
The nurse will be tasked with coordinating care to ensure that high-quality, compassionate patient services are delivered.Responsibilities include overseeing patients at the office locations and serving as a liaison with other departments and organizations.
This position may involve ordering medical, pharmacy, and office supplies to facilitate patient care.Compliance with all policies and procedures of MyMichigan Health, as well as adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations, and other relevant regulatory standards, is essential.
The nurse will also coordinate and provide training for new employees, students, and float staff as needed.In addition, the clinical nurse will offer patient education, assist with specialty care modalities, manage symptoms, be available for emergencies, monitor compliance and the effects of care management for high-risk patients, educate on prescriptions, and instruct patients and families on medication purposes and potential side effects, ensuring continuity of care with other providers.
General office duties, such as typing, filing, answering phones, and operating office equipment, may also be required. The specific expectations outlined in this job description may vary slightly based on the assigned practice, and the immediate supervisor will clarify responsibilities.Key Responsibilities:
(20%)* Manage all incoming calls, schedule urgent/emergent appointments, relay test results, process medication refills, and support patients with consults, testing, and insurance pre-certification documentation.
(20%)* Conduct comprehensive patient assessments within the scope of licensure. Welcome patients and/or families, perform routine pre-examination tasks including vital signs, and document both objective and subjective data regarding the presenting condition. Maintain accurate patient records through tasks such as orders reconciliation and secure messaging (if available). Conduct medication reconciliation and process refills within the scope of certification.
(20%)* Collaborate with the care team based on the provider's directives, working with patients and families on disease processes and care management.
(20%)* Assist the provider during examinations and procedures.
(20%)* Prepare and sanitize the patient area, set up necessary equipment, and ensure cleanliness after procedures. Dispose of contaminated materials and sterilize medical instruments.
Additional Duties:
Exhibit critical thinking in patient management.
Address the age-specific needs of the population served in accordance with established standards and policies, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.
Demonstrate proficiency in necessary computer functions within the office setting, including Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS), Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), Practice Management, Electronic Medical Records, Laboratory Information System (LIS), and other relevant programs to assist providers and staff.
Maintain a systematic approach to accurate documentation and coding in medical records as per policy.
Participate in annual reviews for quality and completeness as necessary.
Manage patient symptoms as directed by the provider.
Ensure continuity of care with other healthcare providers.

Certifications and Licenses:
BLS - Basic Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 1 month of hire or transfer
RN - Registered Nurse

Associates Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
BSN is preferred.
Experience, Training, and Skills:
Familiarity with the organization's Infor, Electronic Medical Records, and Practice Management systems is preferred, or knowledge of similar software.
PC Software Proficiency:
Knowledge of Excel and Word is essential.
Understanding of medical office policies, practices, and procedures typically acquired through three to five years of experience in the healthcare system or a similar environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary for effective communication with individuals at all levels, conveying concepts clearly and understandably.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to handle stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or suitable alternatives as required for the position.
Ability to move freely throughout the facility with or without assistive devices and perform job functions as outlined in the job description.
Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods are required.
May involve frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
Must adhere to MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, work collaboratively with others, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and remain alert.
May require repetitive movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level:
Light.
Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently handle 10 lbs., and perform walking, standing, pushing, or pulling tasks as necessary.
