Payroll Specialist

Pitkin County is seeking a skilled Payroll Specialist to join its Finance team. This role offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement and the opportunity to work in a positive, inclusive workplace.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering the County's payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state, federal, and County regulations.
Key responsibilities include maintaining employee databases, reviewing and approving payroll data, and ensuring timely processing of payroll-related items.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associates Degree in Accounting or business-related field preferred
- 1-3 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting in a public sector organization
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
- County policies and procedures
- State and Federal laws and regulations governing work performed
- Record keeping and records management rules and standards
- Standard personal computer software programs and specialized state, federal, and County software
