Job Overview

Retention Bonus: $1000 Available

Schedule: Pool 1 - 4 shifts per month, 8-hour shifts.

The Experiential Therapy Specialist I is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, facilitation, direction, and evaluation of therapeutic programming across various specialized treatment domains. This role requires a comprehensive understanding and application of experiential therapeutic techniques in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and community resources. Documentation within the designated program is essential. The specialist should possess a diverse skill set in various experiential modalities. A solid grasp of the psychosocial dynamics of patient/resident groups and the integration of expressive activities in a therapeutic environment is crucial. Activities may encompass adventure-based initiatives, sports, dance, group challenges, arts and crafts, music, outdoor pursuits, psychodrama, horticulture, and ropes/challenge courses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and assess programming across all specialized treatment areas.
  • Ensure the continuity of departmental operations in the absence of leadership.
  • Oversee, evaluate, and mentor student interns.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of psychosocial functioning within patient/resident groups and the application of expressive activities in therapeutic settings.
  • Utilize recreational activities to assist patients/residents in applying recovery skills learned in therapeutic sessions.
  • Deliver personalized treatment within a group context.
  • Possess awareness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in art, music, dance, recreation, or related therapeutic fields. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Certification or registration through the relevant credentialing board is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license in the state of employment is necessary.
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required within thirty (30) days of hire, with annual re-certification.
  • Training in the management of aggressive patients is required within sixty (60) days of hire, with annual re-certification, including self-defense training.
  • Completion of Ropes and Challenge Course training by Rogers Memorial Hospital, with yearly renewal as applicable.
  • For those working in Child/Adolescent Day Treatment programs, at least one (1) year of educational or work experience and appropriate licensure or certification is required when serving children with mental health disorders.
  • Compliance with employee training requirements for Residential Care Centers (RCC) and Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) is applicable to staff in Experiential Therapy roles.

Certifications: Art Credential - Cert, Art Therapist Registered - Cert, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist - Cert, Dance Therapist - Cert, Music Therapist - Cert.
