Position Overview:

Department Summary:
The Department of Radiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is in search of a Lead Radiologic Technologist or a Radiologic Technologist. This role involves organizing and executing CT imaging procedures, utilizing x-ray technology and computer processing methods to support physician diagnostics and treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain ARRT certification and Iowa Permit to Practice.
  • Introduce yourself to patients, address them by name, gather relevant clinical histories, and explain the CT examination process.
  • Prepare patients for CT imaging by assessing technical requirements based on their age and medical condition, and schedule examinations appropriately.
  • Ensure the proper and safe operation of all imaging equipment, reporting any malfunctions immediately.
  • Maintain effective communication with physician offices and escalate any issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Keep accurate records and files, complete necessary log entries, and manage clerical tasks related to imaging requests.
  • Operate CT imaging equipment following established protocols, ensuring adherence to radiation safety standards.
  • Conduct all imaging exams as ordered in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform necessary computer functions, including PACS, RIS, HIS, order entry, and image post-processing.
  • Execute imaging procedures as per physician orders and communicate any discrepancies with the referring physician.
  • Identify, prepare, and administer medications as prescribed, including contrast media and barium, and assist physicians with complex imaging tasks.
  • Provide care and support to patients during imaging procedures, addressing their emotional and physical needs while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Participate in on-call duties alongside other technologists in the department.
  • Carry out additional related responsibilities as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Full-time position, primarily during daytime hours, with rotating holiday responsibilities.

Compensation:
The salary for the Radiologic Technologist position is classified at level 4, while the Lead Radiologic Technologist position is classified at level 5. Indicate your desired classification in your application.

Qualifications:

  • Radiologic Technologist: Successful completion of a two-year program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology is required.
Certification Requirements:
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic imaging procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is mandatory.
  • A valid Permit to Practice issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health is required for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation equipment.
