Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Bartender to join our team at the Westin Portland Harborview. As a Bartender, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, preparing and serving drinks, and maintaining a clean and organized bar area.
Responsibilities- Prepare and serve drinks, including cocktails, beer, and wine
- Take food and beverage orders from guests and serving staff
- Prepare appetizers and food items according to recipes and standards
- Monitor seating in the lounge/bar area and ensure all guests are served
- Compute bills and accept payment, track and balance sales receipts
- Limit problems and liability related to customers' excessive drinking by taking steps such as discontinuing alcohol service and notifying management of potential problem(s)
- Clean bars, work areas, and tables, as well as glasses, utensils, and bar equipment
- Maintain kitchen and lounge station by keeping area tidy, clean, and stocked
- Plan, organize, and control the operations of the lounge/bar area
- Inventory liquor, food supplies, and equipment weekly, and order or requisition supplies as needed
- Ensure all temp logs and waste logs are maintained daily
- Receive, date, and examine foodstuffs and supplies to ensure quality and quantity meet established standards and specifications
- Ensure tips are reported properly for tax processing
- 6 months to 1 year of related experience; fine dining or hotel bar experience preferred
- TiPS certification required (will be provided by the hotel within first month of employment)
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, develop alternative solutions, and use reason even when dealing with emotional topics
- Ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations, including the ability to respond promptly to customer needs and requests for service and assistance
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, treat others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position
- Knowledge of and ability to appropriately interpret and follow policies and procedures
- Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly
- Ability to present and express ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience, whether oral or written
- Ability to meet the demands of the work schedule, be at work and on time, and may occasionally require the ability to work outside of regularly scheduled hours
