Job Summary

The PMA & DER Engineer is responsible for leading the design and delivery of new aviation products, including research and development, product design, testing, quality control, and product support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all engineering tasks required to bring new products into production, including research, design, development, testing, tooling, manufacturing, and ongoing support for new and existing product lines.
  • Communicate and work with all departments, including purchasing, sales, operations, quality, and customer service, as needed, in support of our products.
  • Communicate with and provide necessary documentation to FAA personnel, customers, suppliers, and distributors, as needed.
  • Follow policies and procedures in the maintenance manuals, VSE Aviation Quality Assurance Manual, Engineering Manual, and Safety Manuals, as required.
  • Support product teams through the new product development process, including production specifications, design reviews, model development, and associated drawings.
  • Propose and make ongoing improvements to products, the associated production process, and testing equipment, as appropriate.
  • Develop and propose new testing, design, manufacturing, and aviation product ideas.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of relevant/technical work experience, or an additional 3 years of specific work experience in lieu of degree
  • Metallurgy and material properties knowledge
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player on projects assigned
  • Ability to manage projects personally and work independently
  • Ability to frame and solve problems, technical and otherwise, logically and efficiently
  • CAD knowledge - solid modeling proficiency preferred, FEA experience is a plus
  • Good communication skills are required
Preferred Requirements
  • Master's degree
  • 8+ years of engineering experience is preferred
  • General aviation experience and an understanding of aircraft systems
  • Hands-on machine and manufacturing processes knowledge
  • FAA/PMA product certification experience is a plus
  • Aircraft maintenance experience
  • Tool design experience
  • FAA DER experience
