Job Summary

The Investment Office is in search of an Analyst to become an integral part of our investment team, composed of portfolio managers and fellow analysts who value collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and teamwork.

Under the direct supervision of senior managers, the Analyst will engage in a variety of tasks to support the team's asset allocation, portfolio construction, and management responsibilities.

The Analyst will have the chance to engage with leading investors globally, and their contributions will directly influence the financial foundation of the institution, ensuring the continuation of the University of Chicago's mission for both current and future generations.

This distinctive opportunity is intended for candidates who have exhibited an exemplary work ethic. In addition to a bachelor's degree, we seek team-oriented professionals with strong analytical, writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills. Intellectual curiosity and critical thinking are paramount.

For Analysts pursuing further education, the University provides financial assistance for an MBA at the Booth School of Business and a CFA Charterholder designation.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Managing Director of Strategy, assist the team in investment analysis to inform decisions regarding our diversified global portfolio.

Conduct research, prepare, and draft memos and presentations to support long-term strategic decisions across the various capital pools at the University.

Assist the team in sourcing, researching, analyzing, and conducting ongoing due diligence of external investment managers for the University's diverse investment pools.

This includes meeting with managers, performing rigorous quantitative/risk analysis, reviewing manager reports and letters, attending annual meetings, and discussing investment theses with the team.

Prepare data-driven investment memos that recommend compelling investments for our portfolios.

Document meeting notes and track qualitative and quantitative information related to our investments.

Network with institutional peers and managers to stay updated on investment trends and discover promising investment opportunities.

Collaborate with team members across the Investment Office to share best practices, refine underwriting and reporting processes, and conduct topical analysis.

Engage with colleagues on the Risk and Investment Operations teams to investigate and resolve issues promptly.

Interact with various constituencies across the University as well as external partners and audiences. Represent the University at meetings with managers, peers, and industry events.

Prepare exhibits for presentations to the management team and Investment Committee.

Support various aspects of the investment process, including the selection and monitoring of external investment specialists across asset classes.

Assist with sourcing and due diligence of potential new investments and perform industry analysis to assess the investment attractiveness of various strategies.

Perform other related tasks as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a relevant field.


Work Experience

Preferred Qualifications

Coursework in finance, economics, or accounting.

Business experience.

CFA designation.


Technical Skills Or Knowledge

Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; advanced Excel skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

Data analytics.

Experience with software programs such as AirTable and Tableau.

Understanding of or prior experience in the drivers of asset class returns.

Familiarity with various software programs utilized by the Investment Office.

Excellent writing skills. Ability to draft presentations and memos.

Strong verbal communication skills. Effectively communicate with the team, external constituents, and the broader Investment Office.

Exceptional organizational skills. Ability to operate autonomously, manage work processes, communicate workflows, and ensure deadlines are met, often in a dynamic environment.

Interest in portfolio management and institutional investing.
