Position Overview

The Intravenous Therapy Nurse is dedicated to the administration of intravenous medications and fluids through various access points, including peripheral IVs, midline catheters, and ports. This role requires proficiency in accessing these lines, collecting patient samples, and interpreting laboratory results, while continuously monitoring patient vital signs during infusions.

Patient Safety and Care
The Intravenous Therapy Nurse prioritizes patient safety during medication infusions, staying vigilant for potential infusion reactions and maintaining clear communication with the healthcare team regarding any incidents.

Professional Standards
This position demands adherence to high standards of patient care, confidentiality, and compliance with company policies, local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards. The Intravenous Therapy Nurse collaborates effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) with active licensure from the Virginia State Board of Nursing (Washington DC and Maryland licenses are advantageous)
    • A minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, physicians, and colleagues
    • Ability to clearly explain procedures and medications to patients and their families
  • Preferred:
    • Professional certifications related to infusion therapy (e.g., CRNI, IgCN)
    • Advanced clinical knowledge and experience with PICC lines and port access
    • In-depth understanding of IVIG infusions
    • Willingness to enhance knowledge of infusion practices
    • At least one (1) year of experience in home, acute care, or alternative site infusion therapy services
