We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health. As a Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients who require psychiatric or chemical dependency related treatment.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, conducting vital signs, and monitoring patient progress.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Participate in restraint and seclusion procedures as needed, and provide emotional support to patients during these situations.
- Assist with patient transfers, including pushing wheelchairs and providing physical support as needed.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Conduct 15-minute rounds and monitor patient behavior, intervening as necessary to ensure patient safety.
- Participate in treatment planning, including identifying patient problems, needs, and strengths, and suggesting modifications to treatment plans based on observations.
- Provide input into discharge planning and facilitate communication with patients, family members, and referral sources.
- Facilitate and co-facilitate didactic groups, community meetings, and drug or alcohol education groups.
- Encourage patient participation in therapeutic activities and provide emotional support to patients during these activities.
- Supervise patients to ensure their safety and involvement in treatment.
- Participate in shift report and provide input during this process.
- Accompany patients as assigned and assist with patient care tasks.
- Help maintain the therapeutic milieu on the unit, including facilitating group meetings and maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
- Collect and analyze patient data, and develop a comprehensive outline of care to be delivered to attain expected outcomes.
- Effectively manage psychiatric crisis emergency situations and assess for pain in patients.
- Maintain desirable patterns of attendance, punctuality, and productivity, and participate in activities that enhance professional growth and development.
- Demonstrate conduct in keeping with the organization's ethical standards and comply with facility safety, infection control, and security programs.
- ADN or BSN in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current South Carolina RN license.
- Sound leadership skills and the ability to organize activities and schedules for medical and non-medical tasks of the patient population.
- Consistently high-quality clinical and interpersonal skills, with a record of being an exemplary role model to others.
- Basic knowledge of treatment procedures, interventions common to acute psychotic and non-violent crisis intervention practice, abnormal psychology, and medical terminology.
- Thorough familiarity with psycho-pharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications.
- Basic teaching and training skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers.
- Flexibility regarding schedule and work assignment, with a willingness to maintain all medical/treatment information as highly confidential.
The Registered Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment with possible exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. The ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations is essential. The Registered Nurse must also be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions, handle interruptions often, and be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands of this job include having a full range of mobility in the upper and lower body, being able to reach overhead, and working in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time. The Registered Nurse must also be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
