The Short Stay/Observation Unit is a specialized 50-bed facility featuring private rooms, dedicated to the care of adult patients with diverse medical conditions. Our approach is rooted in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary framework that ensures comprehensive care, treatment, and patient disposition within a 23-hour timeframe. Patients may be admitted from various sources, including the Emergency Center, Operating Room, procedural areas, or directly from their homes or primary care providers. The unit is equipped with 20 telemetry beds for those requiring cardiac monitoring. Our expertise encompasses all non-critical specialties, addressing a wide array of diagnoses. Our team is committed to facilitating seamless transitions for patients to their next level of care, whether that be home, placement, admission, or procedural areas.

Role Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) operates within the framework established by the ANA scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process to deliver professional nursing care. This includes integrating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and facilitate discharge processes. The RN is responsible for providing high-quality patient care under the guidance of the Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health policies and procedures, and recognizing the significant impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on health outcomes. The RN collaborates with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into the care plan and develops appropriate educational strategies for patients and families, ensuring thorough documentation of education and learning in the health record.

Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Nursing is required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required within five years of hire.
- Graduates from non-accredited nursing programs must possess at least one year of acute care experience or two years in a licensed healthcare role and must have successfully completed the NCLEX licensure examination.
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire.
- Specialty certification is highly recommended within two years.
