Electrical Designer Job Description

Spur Design is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to contribute to a variety of building projects. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of design experience, with a strong understanding of electrical building systems and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide Electrical Engineering design and documentation on projects within Spur Design offices, including site investigations, contract documentation, and construction administration.
  • Develop detailed Electrical Design drawings and specifications from the schematic stage to complete construction documents using Revit MEP or other modeling software.
  • Perform Electrical Engineering tasks, including production of contract documents, specifications, design narratives, calculations, equipment selections, and submission packaging.
  • Apply codes, design guidelines, engineering judgment, company standards, and industry best practices related to personal growth, development, and providing outstanding service to Spur's clients.
  • Manage project work proactively and provide program management within a multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Take responsibility for time management of assigned jobs and maintain accurate daily records of time spent on each assigned job.
  • Maintain and update office systems, including Revit (BIM) libraries, filing systems, and project management tools.
  • Travel for site visits, professional collaborations, and satellite office visits.
  • Work with the Electrical Director and Electrical design team to contribute toward the improvement of Spur Design's methods and processes.
  • Attend office meetings and report on project progress regularly.
  • Support requests for assistance related to marketing, project interviews, level of effort estimates, and project proposals.
Requirements:
  • 5-10 years of Design Experience in the construction industry or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university in the Engineering Sciences, Architectural Engineering, Construction Science, or related field, or actual field experience with direct correlation, or training through a vo-tech program.
  • Non-EIT with at least 1 Exam-based Design Certification.
  • REVIT experience is a must.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and drawings.
  • Knowledge of electrical building systems and guidelines.
  • Ability to balance project deadlines and be responsive to project changes.
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to follow through.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high attention to detail.
Benefits:

Benefits offered with the full-time position include 27 total days of paid time off, sick time off, holiday time off; Healthcare, STD, LTD and Life Insurance plans; reimbursement for professional exams and continuing education; and retirement contributions as follows:

  • 15-25 days of accrued personal time off (PTO) based on years in profession.
  • Paid Holidays including New Year's Day, Spur Design Inception Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday, Christmas Day and the weekdays between Christmas and New Year's Day.
  • Short-term Disability (STD) and Long-term Disability (LTD) are provided at no charge and include compensation of up to 60% of annual base salary.
  • Life insurance in the amount of up to $100,000 or 2x annual base salary (whichever is less) is provided at no charge.
  • Health Insurance, employer covers 100% of employee premiums and 50% of family premiums.
  • Dental Insurance, employer covers 100% of employee premiums and 50% of family premiums.
  • Vision Insurance, employer covers 100% of employee premiums and 50% of family premiums.
  • Retirement benefits include matching 401k contributions of 1-for-1 matching up to 3% and 1-for-2 matching up to 5%, with a maximum match of 4% for a 5% employee contribution.
