GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers. GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land.

About Us

We are governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, we operate to provide recreational activities and programs to our community.

Job Description

Salary: $16.50 - $17.00 per hour

This position involves leading recreational activities for children ages 5-11. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth recreation programs or childcare settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and supervise various recreational activities, including sports, crafts, games, and field trips.
  • Lead recreational activities; supervise children; enforce safety rules and guidelines.
  • Resolve conflicts among children.
  • Monitor activities within a facility and/or outside; provide information to the public on program activities.
  • Perform first aid as necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in recreation, education, or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of general recreation principles and practices, rules and regulations of age appropriate recreation activities, and basic art and craft techniques, games, and sports.
  • Able to learn recreation activities, rules and regulations, respond to requests and inquiries from the general public, understand and follow oral and written instructions, establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and work effectively under supervision.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire date.
