The Teacher of the Visually Impaired provides specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, helping them develop academic and adaptive skills. This role requires a strong understanding of visual impairment education and the ability to adapt curriculum materials and use specialized equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Assess students' visual abilities and educational needs accurately
- Design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to support students with visual impairments
- Collaborate with educators and families to create inclusive learning environments
- Develop and implement training programs and in-services to support educators and families
- Recommend and procure adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and augmentative/alternative communication systems
Requirements:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Clear background check and fingerprinting
- Adherence to state and federal special education laws and regulations
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and training in visual impairment education
