Aquatics Program Manager

The Aquatics Program Manager serves as a pivotal leader within the YMCA of Central Ohio, embodying the organization's mission to foster youth development, promote healthy living, and encourage social responsibility. This role is essential in guiding staff and participants towards achieving their full potential in aquatic programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates leadership qualities that inspire staff and members to engage in desired behaviors aligned with the YMCA's core values.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of staff certifications, ensuring compliance with all in-service standards.
- Oversees the monthly updates of the pool schedule and proactively manages upcoming events.
- Facilitates certification courses for both YMCA and American Red Cross programs.
- Manages inventory levels and makes recommendations for necessary purchases.
- Engages with parents of participants by providing essential information regarding lesson observations, distributing handouts and flyers, addressing inquiries during lessons, and ensuring the completion of program evaluations.
- Actively participates in emergency drills and adheres to established procedures to ensure safety.
- Handles program-related tasks including: entering classes into the management system, assigning students to appropriate skill levels, reducing waitlists, monitoring registration, and responding to communications in a timely manner. Additionally, tracks retention rates, promotions, and overall registration statistics to inform future programming decisions.
This role includes indirect supervision of a team of 5-20 staff members. Responsibilities encompass interviewing, training, and guiding employees; planning and delegating tasks; evaluating performance; and addressing any issues that arise.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this position require the ability to sit, talk, and hear frequently. Occasional standing, walking, and manual dexterity are necessary, along with the capability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Vision requirements include both close and distance vision, and the work environment typically maintains a moderate noise level.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 18 years with a high school diploma and prior teaching experience.
- Required certifications include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen, along with Lifeguarding.
- Must obtain YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification and American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within six months of hire.
- A strong commitment to the YMCA's mission of nurturing youth potential, promoting healthy living, and supporting community members.
- Understanding of the YMCA's purpose and the roles of volunteers and staff.
- Ability to effectively connect with diverse community groups.
