Job Responsibilities

The Milieu Counselor plays a vital role in facilitating communication with patients and maximizing program participation. This role functions under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor/Manager and works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary staff to maintain a therapeutic environment in the Inpatient treatment programs.



Key responsibilities include:


  • Encouraging patients to participate in group activities and sessions
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with patients and hospital personnel
  • Ensuring confidentiality of patient information
  • Observing patient behavior and recording observations in patient charts and during case conferences
  • Participating in crisis situations, including Condition 10 or as patient-related situations occur
  • Communicating during shift change meetings, including patient room checks and successful hand-off at the end of the shift
  • Conducting room checks in all patient rooms as required throughout the shift and documenting appropriately
  • Assisting in coordinating the unit admission process for patients, including physical body and baggage searches, orientation to the unit, and other related duties
  • Assisting in ensuring patients attend group sessions and group activities
  • Assisting with recreational activities as needed
  • Providing support services for the multidisciplinary team, including phone calls and escorts
  • Participating in Performance Improvement Initiatives

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:


  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Some college preferred
  • Related experience and/or training, with CASAC-T preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and manage time accordingly to meet deadlines and requirements
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred
