Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Photonics Technician to join our manufacturing team in our Traverse City, Michigan facility. The successful candidate will be able to perform detailed assembly work on small components while following prescribed quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand and follow detailed working instructions in controlled documentation and manufacturing policies and procedures
  • Perform work using a high-power microscope
  • Follow all cleanroom procedures and policies
  • Perform a wide variety of electronic or electro-mechanical assembly operations on assemblies
  • Makes setups and adjustments holding tolerances to blueprint specification
  • Routinely use hand tools, tweezers, oven, hot plates, crimps, and microscopes
  • Perform optics and crystal cleaning and handling
  • Clean and fasten optics and mechanical parts utilizing various chemical solvents and adhesives
  • Follow company procedures for engineering change notices, non-conforming product, customer concerns, returned goods, and report to proper personnel
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety guidelines, while meeting production goals and schedules
  • Transact work order in Oracle and Cumulus systems
  • Seek additional tasks for completion whenever possible
  • Monitor in process parts and communicate to inventory control
  • Perform minor adjustments to the assembly workstations and offer feedback for major adjustments when needed
  • Prepare products for shipping by completing necessary documentation and packaging of product
  • Repair and document returned products for repair
  • Communicate with supervisor regularly (several times a week) to convey work status
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in a related field or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 2-4 years' experience in Electronics or Photonics field
  • Familiar with Oracle, Agile, ISO, basic computer skill
  • Clean room environment and Lean Manufacturing background is a plus
  • Experienced in the use of: DVM's, power supplies, and general test equipment
  • Experience using hand soldering equipment
Skills
  • Good hand and eye coordination is required
  • Ability to multi-task and switch from task to task at short notice is a desirable quality
  • Knowledge of production concepts such as calibration and quality systems
  • Skilled in use of electronic and optical test and measurement systems
  • General understanding of lasers and laser safety a plus
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work with others in a teamwork environment
  • Ability to maintain a high level of quality while functioning within a busy work environment
  • Ability to recognize potential problem areas & communicate to supervisor
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a cleanroom environment
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to wear cleanroom garments for an 8-hour shift
  • Able to work around strong magnetic fields
