Summary:
The Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) coordinates and delivers nursing care for residents while providing supervision and guidance to clinical staff members.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN nursing program.
- Valid LPN/LVN license in the state of employment.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Preferred one year of nursing experience.
- Documents residents' conditions and nursing requirements.
- Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders.
- Assigns nursing care to team members based on residents' needs and individual capabilities.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates junior staff members and CNAs.
- Administers medications and performs treatments for assigned residents, documenting as required by company and regulatory standards.
- Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
- Ensures economical use of supplies and maintains equipment in a safe manner.
- Reports and records relevant observations and reactions regarding residents.
- Coordinates nursing care for residents scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
- Interviews applicants and recommends hires, participating in counseling, disciplinary actions, and terminations as permitted by state practice act.
- Supervises the nursing unit, including scheduling and directing nursing staff as permitted by state practice act.
- Ensures inventory and supplies are maintained on the unit and communicates needs for housekeeping, maintenance, or dietary assistance.
- Performs other assigned tasks.
- Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
- Effective communication skills with residents, their families, and all organizational levels.
- Ability to respond decisively and swiftly in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
