Position SummaryThis role involves collaborating with the Emergency Response Clinician to assist individuals experiencing pre-crisis or crisis situations, while also working closely with emergency medical services. The focus will be on educating and training individuals about harm reduction techniques and facilitating connections to essential resources and services.
The primary objective is to minimize repeat emergency calls and equip individuals with the necessary tools and support to avert future crises, enabling them to thrive within their communities.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with the ILI team and Program Manager as first responders to emergency calls related to substance use and co-occurring disorders.
- Deliver tailored, flexible, and responsive peer support during critical moments for individuals facing heightened vulnerability.
- Coordinate comprehensive support by working alongside clinical partners and emergency services to develop effective plans for each individual.
- Remain present on-site as needed to provide peer support and connection during emergencies.
- Educate individuals and their support networks about harm reduction strategies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community resources for individuals seeking additional treatment or services.
- Advocate for individuals by assisting them in navigating their rights and accessing necessary services.
- Facilitate referrals to ongoing resources and peer support services.
- Engage in systems advocacy to address and resolve systemic issues affecting individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
- Promote personal empowerment and independent living skills development.
- Complete required reporting and documentation accurately and on time.
- Participate actively in all training sessions and meetings relevant to the role.
Availability required: Thursday 2pm – 5:30pm, Friday through Sunday 2pm-10pm.
CompensationHourly rate: $23.45 - $25.00.

- Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field preferred, along with two years of peer coaching or advocacy experience.
- Certification as a NYCPS (New York Certified Peer Specialist) or CPRA (Certified Peer Recovery Advocate) preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within one year.
- Personal lived experience with mental health or substance use disorders is essential.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of local and national disability-related issues and community dynamics is required.
- Familiarity with community resources and services, particularly those related to substance use, is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of wellness and recovery principles.
- Excellent communication and time management skills are necessary.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
